Who else agrees that King Le Bron is a sore loser?
He pulled a Dan Marino and a Dante Pastorini by not speaking to the media after a devastating loss. Marino did it after he lost to the 49ers in the Superbowl and Pastorini did it after his Oilers were humbled in Pittsburgh and Campbell was held to -5 yards, yes, minus 5 yards. As a matter of fact Dante knocked out the reporter. Anyway, Le Bron should have shown some class and taste and spoken to the media. Superstars do not disrespect the media by going out the backdoor. I'm glad that he was beaten. ESPN and Disney must be pissed because of the sponsorship King LeBron carries. Le Bron will be like Ernie Banks, Ron Santos, Gayle Sayers, Earl Campbell, Pastorini, Craig Biaggio. Great players who never won a ring and let's not forget the Greatest also-ran Quarterback, Dan Marino. No ring(s).
He is 24 and obviously needs to mature. You're absolutely right. I used to really like James, but I lost a lot of respect for him, and don't root for him anymore. He's gotten cocky and he goes about with this sense of entitlement even though he hasn't won anything yet. MVP doesn't really count, people only care about rings. I'm also sick of the LeBron love affair with the media and commentators, there's other players besides LeBron! Yes, he's good, even great, but he's not the Messiah. (I believe that's Ray Allen, a.k.a. "Jesus Shuttlesworth").
The whole pregame picture posing may have been intended for just fun, but it is also disrespectful in a way. That's not part of basketball, it doesn't do anything to help you win basketball games, it's just kind of stupid. Instead of choreographing pregame rituals, they should have focused on choreographing their game.
That doesn't really bother me too much, except the Cavaliers went around like they were the best thing since sliced bread. The move by LeBron to not shake hands was classless. Not showing sportsmanship doesn't make you "a winner" as James so eloquently put it, it just makes you a sore loser. And nobody likes a sore loser.
If it doesn't make sense, then why does everyone do it? To me, it makes perfect sense to be gracious. Whenever I lost, I would do the correct thing and shake hands, even if I didn't feel like it. You don't have to be enthusiastic about it, but to obstain from shaking hands is disrespectful to not only the other team, your own team That You're representing, but to the game of basketball. Not to mention the many young people who look up to him as a role model. Walking off and not even so much as acknowledging who he alleges to be his friend, Dwight Howard, and then leaving your teammates to deal with the press themselves is not the attitude of a winner, just a loser.
But even with that, I understand. He may have been caught up in the moment of the disappointing end of the season, full of high expectations. Maybe he thought it was best to not say anything, because he was afraid he might say something he would regret later. I understand he was upset, and while I think he should have given his opponent who beat him fair and square credit, he didn't. I was disappointed he did that, but wasn't going to villify him for it.
No, it was the fact that after the matter he wouldn't own up to his mistakes, and admit he was wrong. Because there's no denying he is wrong. He refused to apologize, humble himself enough to admit he did wrong. Instead he makes a pathetic excuse that he's a "winner", that it "doesn't make sense" and that he's a competitor. Does that mean he thinks that those who show decency and shake hands are less competitive? Because as you pointed out, MJ shook hands with the Detroit Pistons after losing to them THREE times. And he HATED the Pistons. Being a good sport doesn't mean you aren't competitive, it just means you are capable of showing class. Or Kobe, who did last year after the Celtics spanked his team. You don't think he was feeling just as bad as LeBron, or worse? But he manned up and did what he had to do, however terrible it felt.
You need to be as gracious winning as you do losing. It's a lot easier to do that when you win. But when you lose, that's when you see the true grit of a player. How players respond to adversity, and well... LeBron did a horrible job of it this time. An email is a horrible way to congratulate someone, and I'm hoping he will re-evaluate his statements and own up to his mistakes, or at least learn from them.
If he doesn't, then I will seriously start to wonder if LeBron has delusions that he is above everyone else, and as every bit as arrogant as his display after game 6. I hope this is not the case. As I heard someone put it, Kobe plays everygame like he has something to prove. LeBron plays every game like he has proven himself to the world. So LeBron has hope, he's only 24 and Kobe himself used to be very cocky, too (not to say he doesn't have an ego, but he's definately got it down to be reasonably sized). There's self-confidence, and then there's overconfidence.
Also, you know very well he would have made sure he was in the spotlight if he had won, and would have expected no less of his opponents if he had won. He would have expected them to shake HIS hand.
I expect better from LeBron in the future. I'm sure he's a good guy and maybe lost his head in all the hype. He has done ok considering how much hype he gets, but this was just an embarrassment to him, his team, his city, etc.
