Initial Question: If done properly. If "going vegetarian" means eating chips and baked goods and junk food, then no.

2 years ago, I was 6'0", 261lbs.

I started a WELL PLANNED, nutritional diet and I am down to 208lbs. Never exercised.

Is it hard to quit meat? Hell yes. I remember going through "meat withdrawls" and actually throwing temper tantrums. After a few weeks, the feeling left. I started craving potatoes and other starches like I was craving meat. However, the smell of steak or bacon, or a good ol grill brought it back. A few weeks later, I no longer had a desire, the smell didn't make me feel any different.
Few months down the road, the smell and the look of meat make me queasy.

So, for a while, yes it will be hard and tempting to go back. But you would be a fool to not see the health benefits of cutting meat out entirely.

PS. Forgot one thing.

One thing that helped me sooth the "meat withdrawal" was eating eggs. Didn't last long and ultimately ended up cutting eggs out as well.
