BQ: What are your thoughts on each?
Don't worry, I put a list together of composers I knew, and some I hardly listen to, lol.
My thoughts:
Hans Zimmer - My personal favorite. I love his range... He can go from happy, to action, and he always sounds different.
Ennio Morricone - Unique, as you said, Tamara.
Danny Elfman - His old stuff was recognizable, but The Wolfman was excellent and different. He did GREAT with the strings.
John Frizzell - Love his work on Legion.
John Williams - Recognizable. Not my favorite.
Hans Zimmer - The Lion King
Ennio Morricone - The Untouchables
Danny Elfman - Edward Scissorhands
John Frizzel - Alien: Ressurection
John Williams - Star Wars Trilogy
Jerry Goldsmith - Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Elmer Bernstein - Ghostbusters
Bernard Herrman - Taxi Driver
Alex North - 2001: a space odyssey
BA:
Hans Zimmer - Awesome. I love his work! I love his older work a lot more than his current scores though.
Ennio Morricone - A true master. He has a very distinct style/sound but manages to always stay fresh. I've been listening to his score to Wolf...great stuff.
Danny Elfman - This is the one guy that got me in collecting movie scores. Batman was the first LP (yes vinyl!) i bought. The guy in the store looked at me and said "This isn't Prince" I paid up picked up my record and said "I know, it's Danny Elfman" and walked off.
John Frizzel - Don't know his work too well. I chose Alien 4 because there are tiny hints of James Horner in there. I liked that little touch.
John Williams - I grew up with this guy's work. He got me listening to movie scores. From Close encounters to War of the Worlds. This man is a genius.
Jerry Goldsmith - Like Williams this man has made too many great scores to have just one favorite. I love his style. A damn shame he's gone.
Elmer Bernstein - The man can do Epics of biblical proportions and tiny intimate stuff. It's all brilliant though.
Alex North - I only truly know his unused work for 2001 hahaha! It's mesmerizing. 'Nuff said ;p
Awesome question. I love movie scores!
