I've heard the term student violin concerto before. I'm just curious what the difference is between a student violin concerto and a real one. Some songs/concertos I've played in the past 3 years include. Concerto in A minor by Accolay, Concerto in G Major by Mozart, Concerto in E minor by Mendelssohn, Zigeunerweisen by Sarasate, and the one I am working on now is Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso by Saint Saens. Which of these are student concertos/pieces?
The distinction is really a subjective issue (a matter of opinion), and is really not cut-and-dried.
So-called "student" violin concertos are real concertos, they're just somewhat less difficult than others. Still, student concertos are played by recording and concert artists; the student concertos display less virtuosic fireworks.
