My car is a 1997 saab. It has no spark. I already spent $500 on a new direct ignition cassette which apparently wasn't the root of the problem(thank you meineke.) It's now at the saab dealership and they're saying they need to put in a new ignition module before they can find out what's wrong with it. Cost $303. After that, it may need a new control module they said. Which they said runs about $1000.
Should I go ahead with the $303 so that they can find out what else is wrong? I don't want to keep pouring money I don't have into this car. I'm scared.
Ya know, i used to think that because they work at the dealership , they knew what they were doing. Now, not so much. Any idiot should be able to determine if there's a signal coming from the control module to the ignition module. The dealer has the information to tell you exactly what color the wire is, so what's the problem? Obviously, someone doesn't have a clue. There is NO WAY you should have to pay for their guesses. At the dealer, what you are paying for is all their expertise and training (supposedly), but you are paying for their training as they work on your car. My advice is run! There's no way the module costs 300, go to a junk yard specializing in imports. There's nothing wrong with used pieces, especially at the price the dealer is trying to get you to pay. Run! Get your car to someone who will fix it or charge you nothing, not guess until you are broke! Good luck!
