So this guy bought a lighthouse and it cost 65,000. They already had a house but it was his dream to have a lighhouse as a vacation home. SO he took him kids college fund to fix it and buy it. Sometimes parents do things without thinking and this is obviously a clear case of what the parent wants supercedes what is best for the kids. Perhaps he was looking at it as a down the road project that he would eventually move into the lighthouse and sell his home, thus having the money to replace the college fund. In an emergency I believe parents have the right to tap into a college fund, but only in an emergency. If it is for something frivolous...like a lighthouse...then it should remain a dream and only a dream and keep the money for your kids.
