I read in a book that they were, but I went out today and I saw a toy squirrel with a squeaker made by the American Kennel Club. If they're really dangerous, then the AKC should stop making them. Thanks. 
The reason they said they were bad is because if they bite it really hard, the squeaker might come out and get stuck in their throat or in their intestines.
They aren't dangerous. My dog loves squeaker toys, especially ones that he can play fetch with, like balls or football shaped ones. The only reason they are considered dangerous is because some dogs try to discover the source of the squeak and remove it, which could choke the dog. Most squeak toys have a very small part that squeaks when you squeeze air out of the toy, and its roughly the same shape and size of a Tylenol PM pill. If the dog were able to swallow it, it would probably have no trouble passing it. The squeaky stuffed animals have a much bigger device, about the size of a glade scented oil candle (sorry about the vague size comparisons, I'm just looking around at my house for things to compare with). My dog would tear up a stuffed animal for the squeaker, then carry the squeaker around and play with it. Then he would get bored and finish tearing up the stuffed animal (he periodically tears up old toys, probably because he knows he will get a new one if the old one is gone). Long story short, just supervise a dog that is playing with a squeaker toy. If he tears it up or the toy is old and starts to wear out, throw it away and get a new one. Most dogs LOVE squeaker toys, so why deny them?
