Who Are Your Favorite CLASSICAL MUSICIANS, Either Individual or with Orchestras ?
.
If possible, please list "roughly" when they Played.
Most of mine are from the 50s-70s, because my Favorite Recordings are from That Time.
Plus, being a Brass Player -- I mostly only can "Stand Behind" my Brass Picks
-- Trumpet - Adolph Herseth, Chicago Philharmonic (Fritz Weaver era)
-- Trombone - Henry Charles Smith (tied with his replacement) Glen Dodson - Both from the Philadelphia Philharmonic (Eugene Ormandy era)
-- French Horn - Dennis Brain - HANDS DOWN !! There will never be another one with such "Brilliant" tone, IMO. Behind Him -- Mason Jones (Philadelphia) & Myron Bloom (Cleveland), Dale Clevenger (Chicago)
-- Bassoon - Bernard Garfield (Philadelphia)
-- Violin -- Joshua Bell, Isaac Stern, Itzhak Perlman, & Pinchas Zukerman
-- Pianists - Vladimir Horowitz & Glenn Gould
QUESTION --
Now will the REAL EXPERTS please Step-Up with Faves ??
....and Please Feel Free to Add Comments on Why or Whatever ![]()
.
I am not really an expert in Classical music, and for some instruments, I actually don't like any classical players. But I do like jazz musicians... like I don't like any classical clarinetists but I like some jazz clarinetists... and Im a singer so I can list like heaps of singers
anyway:
Trumpet - my trumpet teacher.
(hes not famous or anything but hes really good at both classical and jazz/blues etc. I got totally creeped out when he played a chromatic scale on a natural trumpet - that's hard, LOL) 1978 - present
Violin - Sarah Chang (I don't really have a reason, but just listening to her play is amazing. The timbre of her instrument is amazing - maybe that's just her violin but - and she has such broad vibrato that it sometimes sounds like a viola - in the lower register) Listen to air on a G string -bach..
i dunno when but shes playing now and shes pretty young
Piano - Dimitris Sgouros (omg he is such an awesome player, Its hard to say why, but listen to him and you'll get why!!!!!) and I say one of my favorites is Nina Simone (I think from 1957 - 2003 in one song (Yes, she is a classical pianist - the one song Im referring to is Love Me or Leave me (1959)... Its amazing - there is a piano solo and if you listen she is playing Bach- of course it is "jazzed" but the counterpoint is amazing and it shows her skill as a pianist...)
Voice - LOL my expertice area!!!!!!!!!!
I'll go by voice type!!
Soprano - Sumi Jo, (her voice is soo "perfect" like she never gets the notes wrong - except when the song is too low for her LOL... vocally and technically I consider her the best... however dramatically (acting not voice) she isnt very good...)
1988-present
Honorable mentions to Leontyne Price, Diana Damrau, Montserrat Caballe, Jessye Norman, Maria Callas and Dame Kiri te Kanawa
Mezzo-Soprano - Cecilia Bartoli ( This isnt so much who is the BEST but shes my favorite...)
Honourable mentions to Marilyn Horne and Dame Janet Baker...
Contralto - Marian Anderson. (Why? Its hard to say... I think you should just listen to her and youll know why. She had such an amazing voice, it was so sweet but so dark and awesome... I love her doing the song Erlkonig and Rhapsody for Alto...)
Mentions to - Kathleen Ferrier, Ewa Podles
Tenor - Placido Domingo (I think he just has such a powerful voice... AMAZING!! also when he sings low it is really awesome)
Mentions to - Andrea Bocelli, Lucianno Pavarotti
Baritone - Ruggero Raimondi (I know hes a Bass- Baritone but hes totally awesome)
Bass - my absolute favorite is Alexander Kipnis .......
LOL
Whats On My YouTube Today?
Gustav Holst - The Planets Op. 32 Mars, the Bringer of War (E. Ormandy)
