Well, let me add my 2 cents.
1./ I would not use the 1/2BH formula as that is the area of a triangle and you are seeking the sides. As pointed out, an isosceles has 2 sides equal, so if the base is subtracted from the perimeter, the remaining number equals the sum of the remaining equal sides, and 1/2 that equals one side.
2./ one side is x, the other score y. x = 1/2 y - 2. (Given). Therefore, y = 2(x+2). The difference is
y - x = difference
2(x+2) - x = Difference
Difference = x + 4
THIS SURPRISED ME. I tried the earlier formula with 3 sets of numbrers (x=5 y=14, x=8 y=20, and x=18 y=40) and it works each time. I'm afraid the "why" isn't immediately available to me.
3./ This one will go very similar to #2. Call one x and the other y (or whatever feels easy to work with) then convert one into a number that is described in terms of the other (like x and 2 times x+15).
4./ This ones tricky because although you know L and W differ by only one integer, you don't know which is greater. So, you will end up with L and L+/- 1. Therefore, area would be L(L+/-1). Perimeter is 2(L+W).
