country boy wanting to upgrade his wardrobe?
I'm a country boy in my mid-twenties faded jeans, hat etc...Well I want to add a couple new outfits with a clean, sharp look but not to formal just something to stand out in the city...any ideas?
I'm going to suggest some "safe" things that hopefully won't stray too far from your own personal style. From the little you've given, I doubt you'll be wearing skinny cut jeans, man-scarves and berets any time soon. You can probably mix these things into your current wardrobe and come out looking decent. 
1) Get a pair or two of really good jeans. You will want a straight leg - this means that when you lay the jeans on a flat surface, the width of the leg is nearly the same all the way down. Your jeans shouldn't have any artificial washes, just a nice, crisp dark blue without any silly pre-fading on the thighs, butt or pocket area. (Called "raw denim", I believe) This will go a long way to stepping up any outfit.
2) Some simple plain v-neck t-shirts that fit you across the shoulders and do not leave lots of extra bagginess around your waist. (White and grey are usually good colours)
3) One or two well-cut button up shirts. A dark, charcoal grey or a dark burgundy red would look nice. You can wear these unbuttoned over your t-shirt and roll up the sleeves for a casual look.
4) A nice leather jacket - maybe in a dark brown. Make sure it isn't long and that it fits in the sleeves and across the shoulders. Find something that isn't super bulky.
5) Good shoes. You can decide if you want a nice pair of boots or sneakers. Not running sneakers, of course, but slimmer, lighter ones with interesting details. Same for the boots - not workboots, but close.
6) A nice watch. A leather strap and a large, dark face can be eye-catching while not being gaudy. (Or a matching metal watch band works nice too!) It's the only piece of jewelry you can wear without being made uncomfortable. Make a statement with it!
