Why do some people still like Vinyl LP's and not CD's?
Besides the larger cover artwork, they snap crackle and pop, the sound quality deteriorates torwards the end of the disc(sometimes very badly if its a long record and the grooves very small). Then you got to turn the thing over! Theyre not portable! You cant record onto them like CD or cassette.They melt, like casettes which arent much better, they get munched, stretched but at least they are small. 8-tracks you get a break in the song for next programme(worse)
lol - as a real live 'audiophile' like one of ther guys here mentioned it simply comes down to this -
vinyl is an analogue source so it hasn't been compressed into a digital form That You find on cds, sacds, dvd-audio etc etc. through a GOOD hi-fi a record will sound richer, more detailed, have better bass, more extended treble and is just superior across the board!
having said that - i find vinyl a pian in the a*** to use and am happy to take the lil drop in quality that using a digital source dictates.
rumble? hiss? wow and flutter? clicks and pops? all these are about not keeping your records clean and using poor quality decks, cartridges - ALL of these things can be avoided if you can be bothered and you WILL hear something pretty amazing...still, like i said, personally i can't be a**** with all that!
just in case you fink i'm one of the hair-shirt flat-earthers(!) i listen to FLAC sources running on an over-clocked water-cooled(silent!) pc into a hand-built external dac and out to modded digital amps and speakers i built myself!!! and yeah, it sounds amazing...only not QUITE as amazing as the best vinyl i've ever heard. =)
try listening to a good SACD on a reasonable machine - that'll take you pretty close to all that vinyl can do without any of the problems. same thing with dvd-audio...problem is the formats aren't well-supported and good recordings are hard to come by.
